Manning Rural Referral Hospital

G'day mates !

Mother's Day arrived early in the East and needless to say My and Bron's moms got SMS's Australia time. We had just rocked in at 2 am after a School Fundraising Function which was a blast.

Well, here it is, my new home from home ( although unlike the previous one, I actually get to spend more time at home than my home away from home.....know what I mean ? ). The 3 flags are The Australian Flag, The Aboriginal Flag and I think the flag of New South Wales. The Paediatric Ward is on the 1st floor of the newer building and the triangular bit jutting out is the outside part of quite a big playroom which is packed with things to make the chidren's stays more pleasant ( including X-boxes ). The ward is a 12 bedded ward which is pretty much full most of the time - Paeds, Paeds Surgery, Orthopaedics.

Allow me a touch of " father's pride ". Matthew missed out on selection for the Manning Valley Under 13 Hockey Team this week - because he is too young ( you have to be 11 at the start of the year ) !!! He had a great game for his club's under 15 team yesterday morning and has made a name for himself on the Astro pitches you saw last week. He is loving his hockey, is giving 150 % and has been a bit embarrassed about all the attention - which is good.........his feet are still firmly on the ground ( as is his stick ).

I'm sure you will be getting a similar paragraph about Jen soon. She is dancing beautifully and makes her Eisteddfod appearance next Sunday. I've just looked out of the window and seen her scootering calmly down the road. She is so relaxed and at peace with herself this year.

Bron went down to Newcastle with Di on Friday. She discovered that Taree is definitely lacking in some shops and returned with bags full of shopping. Go you good thing !

I'm off to Adelaide tonight to attend the Royal Academy of Physicians ( Physicians and Paediatricians ) annual conference. I fly to Sydney from Taree and then on to Adelaide arriving much later tonight. I will be back on Thursday and while I will obviously miss my famdamily, I am looking forward to visiting another Australian city. I won't be able to get to the Barossa Valley unfortunately but I am looking forward to some walks along the River Torrens. A time of reflection, perhaps.

With our love, as always.

The Westralians
